Woche 84:  Woche der Versetzung

Montag

Monday, we went up to Pöstlingberg. It is a Catholic church on the top of a hill overlooking Linz. And it was so pretty!!! There was snow as well! It was awesome! And then we eventually went to the Brandstätter's house. It was a party like usual. Their family is awesome!

Dienstag

My last District Meeting in Linz!!! It was weird... But, before that happened, we met with "M"and the Sisters. We watched the Restoration Video. So good!!! And then we had District Meeting. We talked about the key indicators. So, essentially, the people are important, not numbers. These people are God's children! And then we went out to eat with the District at Vappianos! Haha, Americans, eating Italian food, in Austria!

Mittwoch

Wednesday... Well, we went to the German course at 10:00 thinking that the Persians would be there at that time. Well, apparently it was 10.30, so we just asked the member questions about German. And then they showed up! Persian to German! But, afterwards we said bye to them! It was so sad!!! We all hugged and took pictures! Haha, and then we finished our studies. And then we went dooring around the church. The first lady who opened up the door let us in and then told us that she had a Book of Mormon already. She loved the idea of there being more than just the Bible. She said that it didn't make sense that it would all just end with the Bible. Miracle!!! And then we had GMK! It was good.

Donnerstag

Thursday was transfer day! Well, we missed our train... That required patience.. But, we had extra time in Salzburg before I had to leave, so that was good.  So we just got on the next train. There was a ton of snow on the rolling hills of Upper Austria. So it was really pretty. But we finally got into Salzburg and I met my new comp! Elder Jensen! Wooh! Well, we ended up getting on the same exact train we were on. It was headed to Villach, in my new area. Well, we get on and took the long journey to my new home!!! It was beautiful!!! Seriously!!! The mountains were huge and there was so much snow! But then we went through a giant mountain, and on the other side, it was so sunny and no snow! It was crazy!!! And it took 2 and 1/2 hours on the first train. And then the next train was 30 minutes... Long way away from Salzburg. But, then we met the new Senior Couple. The Christensens. They are super nice and invited us over for dinner. But, we first dropped my stuff off and then went finding. We had two super conversations with two different people! IT was amazing! We gave them both a Book of Mormon! It was amazing!

Freitag

Friday, we went to the Police Office first, to try to get Elder Jensen an Austrian Driver's License. No luck... Just more paper work... But, we later went to the University and doored and talked to a ton of people down there And then we did Weekly Planning! Made some awesome goals for the transfer!

Samstag

Saturday, we finished Weekly Planning and then went to St. Veit an der Glan. We went first to Maria Saal, but really a tiny street/ village thing called Sagrad. Well, some random guy gave us a ride from Maria Saal to Sagrad. He said we could meet up some time as well!!! Weird coincidence, not! It was awesome! And he saved us a ton of time! But the guy wasn't home. So we went to St. Veit and doored a little until we needed to go back. And then we went to the church and ate dinner with some members and then went on some hike thing. They drove us up to an elevated valley really close to the border of Slovenia. It was absolutely beautiful! The moon was so bright and there was a giant white mountain next to us!!!

Sonntag

Sunday, was church! Wooh! It was awesome! Pres. Mielacher, our stake president, from Linz, was there today. So that was funny. But it was good. The members are super nice and awesome! And there are quite a few kids.

Woche 83: Transfer Calls....A New Adventure

So, we got transfer calls on Saturday! And the news is:
I will be going to Klagenfurt, southern part of Austria. I will be
with Elder Jensen. I am going to be a stepdad since I am going to
finish training him. Wooh!!!!!!!! Elder Ashcroft is going to stay with Elder Walker. 

Don't know anything about him, so...

This week, I want to share a story instead of my day by day update:

Well, as you know, Elder McArthur and I whitewashed Linz. Which means,
that we were both brand new in Linz. And no Elders had been there for 6
weeks. And when someplace gets whitewashed after being closed for a
transfer(6 weeks), we have to start from nothing. Literally nothing.
No food, no investigators, no potentials, no relationships or
contacts. Our area book was also tiny and skimpy. So, Elder McArthur
and worked, and we worked hard. We knew that we needed investigators,
and quick. So our very first day we went finding. Found a couple of
people. Next day, one of them becomes an investigator. Not the miracle
I want to point out, but a miracle none the less. So, our first
Saturday, we go out finding again, explore the city. We find ourselves
in Hauptplatz. Well, we end up talking to some guy from Ecuador, "R".
Never heard of the church. So we invite him to come and visit it.
Well, he promises to meet us by McDonald's the next day, in order to go
to church. But we got no contact information! Well, we felt really
good about him anyway. So the next morning, we go to McDonald's to meet
him by our house, and he is there!!! No way, that never happens. So we
go to church with him. He loves it, feels the spirit strongly, and
says he is searching for a church. Well, we have a family home evening
with a member the next day. Now, we haven't even been here for a week!
Wow! We continue meeting with him. But, we eventually lose contact for
a couple of weeks. Well, we went finding one day early in the
morning. Like, at 9 or 10. Not normal and not really according to our
daily schedule, but we felt prompted to. Well, we found no one, and
started to head back. As we were waiting for the tram, "R" saw us and
came up to us. We get his new number, and his address. He has been in
the hospital! Contact made again. We start meeting again. Well, when
Elder Ashcroft gets here, we meet with him and invite him to baptism.
Wooh, he is somewhat overwhelmed by such a large decision, but knows
that it is right! He accepts! Well, contact becomes bad, no more
lessons. And then he gets busy with the holidays. Well, he comes to
church every now and then. Well, he was part of a concert put on at
the church. Way successful! And then contact becomes bad again. Well,
this last Saturday, he came to the baptism for "M". It is his first
baptism, other than his own that he has seen. Well, I get talking with
him beforehand. And he thanks me, for everything. He thanked us, for
the baptismal invitation. He knows it is right, and he is thankful for
it, but he wants to make sure he will stay here. He doesn't want to
bail out afterwards. He told me that he really wanted me to be here
for his baptism, but the Lord has other plans for me. Well, I know for
a fact, without a shadow of a doubt, that "R" would never have been
found on the street that day, if Linz wasn't whitewashed. The Elders
would have never met him, if they weren't completely new in the area.
Maybe years, and years later, but not this soon. I know that this was
the Lord's timing.

I have learned from that, to make the most of everything. If we are
brand new to something or to somewhere, that is no excuse! We still
need to work hard, and push forward. If we hadn't, "R" would still be
out there looking for something to fill the hole in his heart! He
wouldn't be enjoying the joy or peace from the gospel, and he wouldn't
be preparing to make sacred covenants with the Lord! Excuses, should
not exist! Ever! No matter what! If we trust the Lord, He will make up
the rest! As long as we do our part, diligently! We, of course, won't be
perfect or maybe even that good at the start, but the Lord will make
it up! I know that for a fact! I have seen it happen!

Montag 28. 12, 2015

Okay, so Monday I bought Lederhosen! Wooh! It is pretty great if you ask me! Haha, and right after that, we saw our bus driving down the road. So, we had to ran as fast as we could to catch it! Well, we made it, because, it got stuck at a red light  Then we headed down to the Erlacher's. Their family is so awesome! Sis. Erlacher reminds so much of you, mom! It is crazy. Sis. Barter agreed. And they have four daughters. They are all so cute! Phillipa, danced for us, and just loved us being there. Matilda gave me her small little backpack and gave me these two yapping dogs. Oh goodness, it was so cute!

Dienstag 29. 12

Tuesday, we had district meeting. Well, I can't remember exactly what we discussed, but it revolved around listening better, helping others learn about Christ, and about Love being our motive. It is part of our Zone Vision:

     Faith is the power

Obedience is the price

Love is the motive

Spirit is the key

Christ is the reason

     Glaube ist die Macht

Gehorsam ist der Preis

Liebe ist das Motiv

Der Geist ist der Schlüssel

Christus ist der Grund

It is pretty great. But afterwards, we had a lesson with the Persians. Well, only "M"(our member, joint teach, and translator) and "R" (investigator) showed up. "M" got confused about it and thought that it was the day for the families and not for the Jungs (boys). So he accidentally told them to come the day after. Well, we started teaching fasting and got pretty much done with it, when the Jungs came in. Well, they got settled down, and then they asked all sort of commandment questions and specifically about a health code, since Islam has one as well. So we taught the Word of Wisdom. It went really well. They understood it, even the black tea part. They said it would be hard, because Black Tea is huge in Middle Eastern culture, but they will give it a go. And then we took care of some business and had GMK. It went well, if I can remember???

Mittwoch 30. 12

Wednesday morning we had Apartment Inspections. I think we did fine Got our Vacuum fixed as well, so yes! Right after that, we had to change into work clothes, and the Grahams drove us down to the Design Center. We had a member call us, and ask if we could help finish clearing out an apartment. The dude got sick, and needed it to be finished. So we took screws out of the wall, along with those plastic things you put screws into the wall. That was hard. I even cut myself! I still have a small scar! Battle scar! And then we eventually went home to do studies.

Donnerstag 31. 12 Silvester

Well, we started off New Year's Eve at 1400. We played Football with the Persians. European Football, sorry, I have been converted. The Sisters made baked apples, yummy! They were super good, but the Persians weren't too fond of them, but were still grateful and polite! And then we played ping pong with them. And we also played Animals. It is the signs game, but with animal signs. And then we went to Mickey's(McDonalds) to have a lesson. Well, we stood outside  it and waited. Well, he never showed up nor answered his phone. Bummer. So went finding until 1900ish... And then we headed on over to the Graham's. Well, Linz Sisters and Haag Elders were also there. So it was tons of fun. We had Frankfurters and Apple Cider/ Kinderpunsch. With Cream Cheese and cut up Jalapeños! It reminded me of Jalapeño Jam with Cream Cheese! And then we set off fireworks! It was super fun. I need to get those photos though. Next week! And then we went home. We had to be home at 2200. So, we heard the fireworks and saw some from our window. Crazy that 2016 is here already!

Freitag 01. 01, 2016 Das neue Jahr!

We started our New Year off by eating at a Chinese/ Japanese Buffett with a member. It was nice.Coconut Milk, and Sushi!!! And then we did German Study and then went over to "G"s with the Sisters. He is a Romanian Jew. So he speaks a ton of languages! But he is going through an extremely tough time right now, and is dealing with it not very well. We all bore testimony of Jesus Christ and his Atonement and then talked about the Book of Mormon. Apparently he is already a member! But less active of course. Well, it helped me realize once again how grateful I am for the knowledge I have about my Saviour, Redeemer, and Healer! It is truly remarkable that He is always there for us! We just need to accept His help, because His hand is always stretched out to lift us up, heal us, comfort us, and so much more!

Samstag 02. 01

Saturday, we supported Sis. Weingärtner with the German Course. She is doing an hour after the regular one for them, because they don't speak any German... How nice! And then we had a lesson afterwards! Well, no translator... Don't no why... But one of them could speak broken English. So we taught the Law of Chastity through him and Google Translate. The Sisters helped us out. It was pretty hard. But we eventually got the point across of why families are so important to God and how we can respect this unit. And then we talked about things God doesn't like and what we need to do in order to show Him respect for the things He has given us. And then we went to see "M" with the Sisters. They taught the Law of Chastity! It didn't take nearly as long, seeing that no translation was necessary! Whew!

Sonntag 03. 01

Sunday was good. Again no Translators... But it still went fine. The spirit was strong during the meeting and we watched a talk from General Conference in Persian for the last hour. So, it went just fine. And we did finding as well that day.

Montag 04. 01

On Monday, we went to Vappianos with the Sisters. It was super good. I had Ravioli with some weird sauce, but it tasted good! We did emails at Mickey's right after that. Well, my weekly Letter deleted itself somehow. A crash or something... And then we attempted to look for slacks... Well, I dont think Europe believes in slacks... Like seriously, it is all suit pants or chinos... Ugh... Oh well, I found some suit pants today that work as slacks.But I did finally find some shirts. Here is something kind of gross. I have been wearing the same shirt for over a year, and slacks for over a year and a half, except Sunday, up until this point. Of course, I washed them regularly though!  And then we went to the Bachmayer's! They made us pizza... It was good, but not normal. Lecker(yummy)! They have two cute little boys. So adorable! And Br. Bachmayer gave us these Berlin Limonade(herbal sodas) drinks! It was way good!

Dienstag 05. 01

District Meeting Day! Tthe Sisters weren't there though, business, so it was just the Elders and the Grahams. We were all tired, so it had a tired kind of feeling. But, we talked about Goal setting! Have faith! Be realistic! Stretch yourself! Have names behind them(for missionary number goals)! And then we talked about Weekly Planning. Plan effectively for the week! We talked about different finding activities and it got into a pretty good discussion! And then we had exchanges with Haag! I stayed here with Elder Hale, while Elder Ashcroft went to Haag with Elder Bolt! We went finding and talked to an Christian Egyptian! Apparently there is an Orthodox Church there! Who knew? Well, I do now! And then we had a lesson with the Persians. "K" was there, but no translator... Well, we talked about Joseph Smith and Jesus Christ. They explained to us the First Vision and the Restoration of the Church of Jesus Christ. Super cool! They know so much already and are great listeners! We talked about this being Christ's church. Not the church of Joseph Smith. So everything we talk about, is from Christ and not made up. Then we talked about prayer. It is so important to ask God himself about this stuff! Go to the source of truth! And then we had GMK.  It went rather well. Got kind of intense about the new year and goals and the Persians. But it was all good and aimed at helping people have a more spiritual time here.

Mittwoch 06. 01

Wednesday morning, we went to the church to help the Sisters with some stuff. They had a lesson right after with the Persians(families), and the translator didn't come, nor did the wives. So, lucky we were there. We stayed and helped teach the Plan of Salvation to them. The Sisters wrote some Persian words over the diagram, so that helped out a ton! I also ate a cookie with salt poured all over it. And then I ate a good one! It was to help explain one reason for opposition. Haha, it was worth it! And then we walked over to the Mayer's with the Sisters. Oh, just so you know, here are the missionaries in my district.

It was a blast there! We ate Lasagna! It was super good! "N" was there as well!  She is new convert! Joined the church in August! She shared her conversion story! It was super cool! She is a trooper and is going to go on a mission! Wooh! And then we took a train, after having the member take us to Bahnhof(train station) or else we would have missed it... We went all the way to Haag. We exchanged back, and Elder Ashcroft and I went back to Linz. When we got back to Linz, we took another train to go to Traun! Haha, trains! Well, we were suppossed to have a lesson there with a Romanian family, but the parents weren't home. So, we went dooring.

Donnerstag 07. 01

Thursday afternoon, we spent our time on the streets talking to people about Christ and making new goals to coming closer to Him this year. We talked to some people, and then went over to "S"'s. We stayed inside the lobby thing, but he never showed up, or answered! So Elder Ashcroft got some Hot Cocoa and then we left. We took the Straßenbahn(tram, street car) 3 down to Doblerholz, the end station. We went dooring and wasn't seeing very much success. Well, we were dooring one place, and people were coming in and out and giving us strange looks. But one person let us in. So we took the elevator up, and went to the door. Well, it turned out to be some 17ish year old boy, "M". We talked to him about our message and the Book of Mormon. Well, then his brother, "B", came to the door. They are from Croatia. We ended up speaking in English and they both wanted a Book of Mormon! Sweet!

Freitag 08. 01

Friday, we also hit the streets! We talked to a ton of people! We tried different things! Book of Mormon, Christ, Prophets, Christ again... Well, we eventually talked to one guy from Syria who is also Christian. We talked about the Book of Mormon, and exchanged contact information. Then went over to Interspar to buy a couple of things for Saturday. Just read for tomorrow. And then we came home and did Weekly Planning.

Samstag 09. 01

Saturday, we went to the German Course again to support Sis. Weingärtner. And then we did a lesson with the Persians and "M"! And "M", our translator, was there! Wooh! We talked about scripture study. How can we study effectively? Take notes! Look up words! Write down questions! Pray!!! And of course personal additions.  And then we had a small activity with our Investigators. Some of the youth and young adults were going to come, but it was pretty late notice. Next week.  We had oven baked nachos, and played volleyball. It was pretty great. Our appointment for afterwards fell through, but it worked out well, because the sisters needed someone to stay to teach "M" as a joint teach. So we stayed and talked about Baptism. Markus is preparing to get baptised for this coming Saturday! And then we talked about keeping the Sabbath Day holy. Such a great commandment. Take a break from work and other things, and focus completely on family, service, and strengthening our relationship with Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ! How nice! And then we went back to Doblerholz, to the Croatian brothers. This time the family was there. The dad, and "M" were at the door. So we talked to the dad for a little bit. We eventually gave him a Book of Mormon in German and he gave his son the one in English! He said that we didn't need to come back, but that they would call, if they had questions,  wanted us just to come back, or if they knew it was what they needed as a family. So, we can't go back, but still a miracle!!!

Sonntag 10. 01

Sunday, I gave a talk in Sacrament Meeting... It went rather well, if I may say so myself. I translated a poem on Saturday for it. I asked Sis. Weingärtner to revise it. It is actually a poem Elder Ashcroft's dad sent him. My theme was from the new President Manual. President Howard W. Hunter. Jesus Christ is our only true source of Hope and long lasting Joy.Here is the part of the poem I used:

Ladder of Hope

I had been in that hole for a very long time

In the dark and the damp, in the cold and the slime.

The shaft was above me; I could see it quite clear 

But there's no way I ever could reach it from here. 

Nor could I remember the world way up there 

So I lost all my hope and gave in to despair. 

I knew nothing but darkness, the floor, and the walls 

Then off in the distance I heard someone call: "Get up! Get ready! There's nothing the matter. 

Take rocks and old sticks and build up a fine ladder." 

This had never occurred to me--had not crossed my mind.

But I started to stack all the stones I could find. 

When I ran out of stones, then old sticks were my goal, For one way or another I'd get out of that hole. 

So I soon had a ladder that was sturdy and tall 

And I thought, "I'll soon leave this place once and for all." 

I climbed up my ladder. It was no easy chore, 

For from lifting those boulders, my shoulders were sore. 

I climbed on up the ladder, but soon had to stop 

For my ladder stopped short--some ten feet from the top.

I climbed back down my ladder and started to cry I'd done all I could do. I gave my best try. 

And in spite of my work, in this hole I must die. 

And all I could do was to sit and think, "Why?" 

Was my ladder too short? Or my hole much too deep 

Then from way upon high came a voice, "Do not weep." 

And then faith, hope, and love entered into my chest 

As the voice said to me that I'd done my best. 

He said, "You've worked very hard, and your labor's been rough, 

But the ladder you've built is at last tall enough. 

Do not despair. You have reason to hope 

just climb up your ladder; I'll throw down my rope." 

I climbed up the ladder, then climbed up the cord. 

When I got to the top, there stood the Lord. 

I couldn't be happier; my struggle was done. 

I blinked in the brightness that came from the Son. 

I fell to the ground, His feet did I kiss 

The most glorious message that man ever heard. 

That there's one who is willing to save one and all 

He'll pull us all out of the hole that we're in 

And save all our souls from death and from sin. 

So do not lose faith; there is reason to hope 

just build up your ladder; He'll throw down His rope.

Leiter der Hoffnung

Ich war für eine lange Zeit in einem Loch gewesen,

In Dunkelheit und Feuchtigkeit, in Kälte und Matsch.

Der Strahl war gerade über mir;

Ich konnte ihn klar sehen.

Auf keinen Fall, konnte ich ihn erreichen.

Ich konnte mich nicht erinnern,

Wie die Welt da oben war.

Ich verlor meine ganze Hoffnung

Und gab mich der Verzweiflung hin!

Ich fühlte die Dunkelheit, und sah nichts, außer den Boden, und die Wände. 

Dann, von weitem, hörte ich jemanden rufen:

"Hab keine Angst, steh auf, bereite dich vor!

Nimm Steine, alte Äste und Stöcke und baue eine gute Leiter."

Das ist mir noch nie eingefallen!

Ich fing an, Steine zu suchen, und die aufzustapeln.

Wenn es keine Steine mehr gab, waren Äste mein Ziel.

Irgendwie, werde ich raus von dem Loch kommen.

Kurz danach, hatte ich eine große und stabile Leiter,

Und ich dachte mir, "ich werde bald dieses Loch ein für alle Mal verlassen!"

Ich stieg die Leiter hinauf.

Es war nicht ganz leicht.

Das Heben des Felsbrockens erschöpfte mich und meine Schulter schmerzte.

Ich stieg weiter hinauf aber musste bald halten.

Meine Leiter war zu kurz, 3 Meter weit von der Spitze des Loches.

Ich stieg herunter und begann zu weinen.

Ich tat alles was ich konnte. Ich gab mein Bestes.

Sollte ich in diesem Loch sterben, trotz meiner Arbeit?

Ich setzte mich und dachte darüber nach,

"Warum?"

War das Loch zu tief?

Dann hörte ich von oben eine Stimme,

"Weine nicht."

Dann kamen Glaube, Hoffnung, und Liebe in mein Herz,

Weil sie sagte, dass ich mein Bestes gab.

Sie sagte, "Du arbeitest sehr fleißig, und die Arbeit war schwierig.

Jedoch deine Leiter ist lang genug.

Verzweifle nicht! Du hast einen Grund, zur Hoffnung.

Steig die Leiter hinauf und ich werfe dir mein Seil zu."

So stieg ich meine Leiter hinauf und kletterte am Seil weiter ans Licht.

Wann ich ans Licht kam, erblickte ich den Herrn.

Ich war total froh! Mein Kampf war fertig!

Ich stand erstaunt in der Helligkeit des Sohnes!

Ich fiel zu Boden, und küsste seine Füße.

Die herrlichste Botschaft, die man je hörte.

Dass es jemanden gibt, der willig ist, jeden zu erretten.

Er wird uns aus dem Loch herausziehen,

Und unsere Seelen von Tod und Sünde erretten.

So, verlieret keinen Glauben, es gibt einen Grund zur Hoffnung.

Bauet einfach eine gute Leiter und er wird euch sein Seil zuwerfen.

Jesus Christ will save us from our hole of despair, confusion, sin, sorrow, or whatever it may be! I explained the poem a little, related it to the theme and bore my testimony. Afterwards, we had the rest of church! Translators and everything! It was great! The Persians bore their testimonies as well during the second class! It was so touching! They have grown so much! And then we later went to the Kramesch's. Their kids are great! A ton of energy, like a ton, but great.

Just remember, Jesus Christ lives! He is always there for us! His hand is always stretched out! Just reach out for it! I know the Book of Mormon to be true as well! It really is another testament of Christ! If anyone wants to strengthen their relationship with Him, or get to know Him better, read the Book of Mormon. You will be so thankful in the end! Trust me, I have done it time and time again, and it is always time worthy! Have a great week!!!

Woche 80: Woche des Weihnachten

Montag

Monday, we went grocery shopping and then went to the church anticipating on emailing. Well, we ended up cleaning the church. It was fun though. Found a creepy storage room in the basement with a creepy mannequin. And then the Sisters showed up to do emails while we were cleaning. So we left  and went to the Christkindlmarkt(Christmas Market). I bought a ceramic penguin. Then we went and took a train to Ansfelden. Well our train got delayed, even though we were sitting in it waiting to leave. but we had to get off and get on another one. So we ended being late to the Familie Obermayr's place... But that was way awesome. We played a scripture game afterwards. When you spinned a  certain colour, you had to answer a question from the standard works.

Dienstag

Tuesday we did District Meeting. It was good. We talked about Christmas from the Old Testament, Book of Mormon, and then from the New Testament. It was fun. We made Vanillekipferln for it. Yummy. And then we had a gift exchange. I got a cup with a smiley face on it with Haribo on the inside. We the went to McDonalds for lunch and then had to go back to the church to do emails. Well, we didnt have enough time because we had to help get ready for the Persian party we had that night. We helped make Schnitzel and Potatoes. We set the tables up and everything. We ended up having quite a turn out. We had 10 adults, 5 children, 1 member there. Those were only Persians. We had the 6 missionaries as well as 4 ward missionaries there.  So, it was good. We cleaned up,and played Ping pong with them. That was fun. Even learned some Persian.

Wednesday was Joseph Smith's birthday!! Our mission was to testify about Joseph Smith as a prophet of God, visit someone lonely, and eat Lebkuchen. So, we went out to the church to finally do emails. We did them, while drinking Christmas tea and eating cake. We then went caroling with Familie Mielacher. It was fun... Well they sang an awkward song about kissing by candle light underneath the mistletoe... Haha, well I guess it wasn't that weird, but for the missionaries, it isWe had a good time singing to people about Christ as well,it was loads of fun. And then we got back to the church! We went and got some Lebkuchen. And then went to join the sisters for a lesson with their friend  "M". We testified about Joseph Smith being a prophet of God as well!! And we ate Lebkuchen and drank tea with him! It was awesome! He even accepted a baptismal date of Jan. 16th to start following Christ more fully!!! I am so excited for him!

Donnerstag/ Heiliger Abend

Christmas Eve is the day they celebrate our Saviour's birth in Germany and Austria. They have a special Church Service dedicated to it on this day.

Thursday, we made cookies. More Vanillekipferln. Well, I used to much butter. But in my defense, we don't have any measuring tools and their recipes are in grams, not cups and stuff.......... Anyway, We went and delivered them, with the sisters, to people who gave us ingredients. We caroled as well. And then we went to the downtown and caroled on the Streets. People enjoyed it! It was a pleasure. And then we drank hot cocoa and went to the church. We had the church service for Heiliger Abend(Holy Evening, or Christmas Eve. They based it off of the Book of Mormon. It was acted out sort of. Starting with Samuel the Lamanite in 3 Nephi. And then to the star finally appearing. We sang in the choir, O Holy Night in German. And the Spirit was so strong during the service! And then we later we went to the Familie Wagner's place for Christmas Eve. Oh wow, it was amazing. A new convert was there, "J". She is from Australia. We had such a great time. I got a tie as well! Wooh! It was great! We read a Christmas story written by her son. It was similar to that of the Christmas Service. And we had French Onion soup. Oh wow, it was delicous. And then we had Oven Potatoes with Joghurt and green onions and stuff like that and some had chicken in it.  Yum!

Freitag/ Weihnachten

Christmas Day is used for spening time with families. Usually the family of the Wife or Husband.

Friday, we woke up and opened presents. Thanks for everything!!! I loved it all! We had breakfast together and the like. We then went to the Erlacher's place. We had Austrian, not American, Turkey. And Stuffing Knödel. And veggies. And Some potatoes. and some Rot Kohl and Sauerkraut. It was all amazing. And the kids were there. We had fun. We sang together and stuff like that. And then we headed to the church to do some skyping!!! I went first, and finally got skype and the computer to work. Oh, it was awesome! I loved it so much! And then Sister Barter went, and then Sister Berry, and then Elder Ashcroft.

Samstag/ Zweiter Tag Weihnachten

The second day of Christmas is used to spend time with spouses family that they were not with the previous day. Of course exceptions are made, especially if you live very far away. But it is always spent with family, whether it is with siblings or uncles or parents.

The Second day of Christmas here in Austria, or Boxing Day in England and Canada. Well, we went to the other Erlacher's. She is English. So we had an English meal. With Turkey, Yorkshire Pudding, and other goodies. It was delicious. We had those Crackers, where you tug on it with another person. It pops and someone wins. And there is a crown with something small and a slip of paper with jokes on it. It was great. I was a king all day long.

Sonntag

Sunday was, nice, but different. We woke up and went to the church for choir. Well, President and Sister Kohler randomly showed up with their daughter, Ericka. It was a nice surprise. So we ended up singing during Sacrament Meeting. It was pretty good. And then we had a huge investigator class. 14 people from Iran, Afghanistan, Romania, and Georgia(not in America)... It was quite a surprise. Pres. Kohler helped us out. We got last minute notice to teach the class.

Montag

On P-Day, we went to a castle! It had a great view of Linz from there!!!

Dienstag

Tuesday we had District Meeting!  And then I went to Salzburg for our Exchanges!!! I was with Elder Hunt! We went finding and had Institute and then ate with the YSA.

Mittwoch

We did some more finding. We went over to a less actives house. He is American. He gave us a kiss as well on the cheek and kept hugging us. When we got back to Linz, we went to some cultural night for dinner. It was interesting.

Donnerstag

Thursday went to Solar City. It was nice. We doored a bunch.

Freitag

Friday we did Weekly Planning. We then went to the church to do a lesson with the Persians. Well, no one showed up except the sisters and a member... They all got confused.

Samstag

Saturday we went finding and asked people for ingredients so we could make cookies for them! It was so much fun. We then had a benefits concert. It went super well.

Sonntag

Sunday we went to church. We walked the thirty minutes to church actually. It was super nice. And then afterwards we had a ward picnic. It was great!!!

Woche 78: Why We Need a Savior

Woche 78

Montag

Monday, we went and did P-Day. It was great. Went a couple places and then did emails. Went finding afterwards and talked to tons of people about Christmas. It was awesome.

Dienstag

Tuesday was the last District Meeting of the transfer. It was good. We talked about the Christmas initiative. How we can use it when finding. Some good approaches and stuff like that. It was good. We then went over to"W"s  place. We met with him and Br. Mayer. It was great! We taught about the Restoration and about Priesthood. It was really good. He told us that when we pray together, that he really feels the Holy Ghost  strongly. It was great. He then said, "I don't ask God for much, but I think this is worthy of asking." Of course it was in German, but it was great! We then went back to the church for a lesson with the Persians. We taught the beginning of the Plan of Salvation. It was super good. They had good questions. We talked about how important Jesus Christ was in it all! We shared 2 Nephi 2 with them. We used a couple of scriptures and explained how the Fall was a good thing, and that we can understand the purpose of life! They really understood it and liked it a lot! And then we had GMK.

Mittwoch

So,w e went finding all over downtown. We even found this book closet on the sidewalk. I guess you take a book and leave one. Well, I have a German book from 1930 and someone hopefully has a Book of Mormon. Then we went dooring in Auwiesen. Set up an appointment with a less active. And we even went and found someone who knew our Persian translator member! It was crazy!

Donnerstag

Thursday morning, we said bye to Sister Baker! And then we went and gave "K" a blessing. And then we went home to do studies. We then went finding and talked some more about Christmas. We then met the moonies. Well, we got invited to a religious discussion circle, but it turned out to be at the Moonies church with just them and us two... Well, I wouldn't say Moonies, and use their official name, but I honestly don't know it... But they really liked us and we had quite a nice time. Some of them even have met with our church and one is currently meeting with our church in Wels. 

Freitag

Well, we tried to go finding in a place called Gaumberg. It is a part of Linz. But pretty much no one was there... So that was a bust. But we eventually met with the Persians. That was a disaster at first. Most of them didn't show up, and our translator wasn't there at first... But two showed, and a member picked up our translator for us. So we answered their questions about Tuesday's discussion. It went rather well.

Samstag

Saturday, we did Weekly Planning. It went very well. We then eventually went to Pleschinger See. It was quite pretty there. Saw Linz at night from an elevated view. We met some nice people there.

Sonntag

Church was good. It took some effort to stay concentrated because I slept bad the night before. But it was all pretty good. And then after church, we went to the Erlacher's with the Sisters! Their family is seriously so awesome! I love them so much! We wrapped Books of Mormon and watched the new video about what the world would be like without a Saviour! It went super well, and they loved it! Oh man, we then sang Christmas songs with them! It was great! And S. Erlacher reminded Sister Barter and I of you, mom!

Montag

On Monday, we did some shopping for Elder Ashcroft. We also went
to the Weihnachtsmarkt(Christmas market). That was tons of fun. And
then, I bought my 5€ gift for the Christmas Conference on Saturday. I
got a Snowglobe, it was pretty dang good! And then we went down to
the Erlacher's. They are so amazing! We had Grilled Cheeses with ham
and tuna and stuff like that. It was great. We also had some British
drinks. Don't remember what they were called, but they were
British. They are also taking care of the three cutest Egyptian kids!
They are just adorable!

 
Dienstag

Tuesday, we didnt have District Meeting! So the morning was
normal! And then we went out to go by on some Referral. He works at
some Pawn Shop thing. So that was real cool. He was super busy, so he
said to just call. But later, we met wit the Persians again! We
met with one of the Ward missionaries, Klaus, and a different Persian
member. Well, he talked almost the whole time! It was so hard to
take control, especially since it was in Persian! But, it ended well.
We then had GMK with only half the people. But it went pretty
well.

Mittwoch

Wednesday, we met with "WS". He was the referral from last
week. We brought Bru. Obermayr along this time. They got to know each
other and then we started! It went extremely well. We taught about
God, Prophets, Jesus Christ, and the Great Apostasy. We are all on the
same level. He also already believes Joseph Smith was a prophet and
that the Book of Mormon is true! He is amazing and so prepared! And
then we went finding after that.

Donnerstag

Thursday, we started our exchange with Wels. I went on over to Wels
with Elder Stahle. He is super cool. We went finding and stuff. Both
of our lessons that day fell through. So we walked for a bit with our
joint teach, Daniel. He is 17, and super nice and cool. And then, I
later ate Bratwürstel with Sauerkraut and Semmel. Sound Austrian
enough? Haha, it was amazing!!!

Freitag

Well, Friday, the other two appointments also fell through. So we went
finding some more! We asked people how they celebrate Christmas!
Apparently what I ate last night, is super Oberösterreichisch(Upper
Austrian) to eat on Christmas Eve... Hmm... Haha, but it was cool.

Samstag

Saturday, we had Christmas Conference in Salzburg! It was awesome! I
loved it, a lot! We talked about the new Christmas Initiative. The
Videos, and Jesus Christ! It was super good. We also watched this film
called "Silent Night." It talks about the origin of the song. Way
cool, especially since it was filmed in the Salzburg area, and we were
in Salzburg! Talk about fitting!
 

 Sonntag

Sunday was church. Went to choir. Sang. Had the rest of church. We had
8 Persians come. We have 10 investigators, not including three
children, 3 active members, and 5 less active members who speak
Persian. So many!!! But it was great! We then went to the Miesbauer's
after church. They speak in Austrian High German at home when we
are there. So not full out dialect. Elder Graham didn't catch what one
of them said about tea, so I translated it for them. Tey were all at
awe, because of my amazing Austrian German understanding skills, haha,
but it was a great time together!
